Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan was back in court in Los Angeles on Friday (September 24) to face the music after admitting last week to failing a recent drug test. The judge in the case was clearly not happy about this latest setback.
According to TMZ, Judge Elden Fox did not hear any testimony from Lohan's lawyers before denying the 24-year-old "Mean Girls" star bail and ordering her to immediately report to jail. Lohan was reportedly handcuffed in court before being taken into custody, meaning she could be behind bars until the next hearing in the case, scheduled for October 22.
Wearing black sunglasses, a long black blazer over a high-waisted white skirt and black top and shiny stacked heels, Lohan breezed past the assembled paparazzi around 8 a.m. on Friday on her way into court, five days after Judge Fox revoked her probation and issued a bench warrant that would have been executed had Lohan failed to show up for the hearing.
Last weekend, Lohan admitted to failing her recent drug test, conceding that she was still struggling with addiction.
"Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result," Lohan tweeted late Friday night. "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. ... This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences."
TMZ ran earlier unconfirmed reports that Lohan actually failed two drug tests. One was for cocaine, which appears to be the incident Lohan was referring to in her tweet, while another was for amphetamines that could be related to the prescription ADHD drug she takes, Adderall, which is a stimulant. The site reported that the Probation Department was not expected to recommend jail time for the second offense because of some questions over the paperwork in that incident.
According to the conditions of her post-rehab release, Judge Fox could send Lohan back to jail for 30 days. Lohan served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence in July over a probation violation from a pair of 2007 DUI cases; she subsequently spent 23 days in a rehab facility, serving less than one third of her 90-day court-ordered sentence.
Lohan's lawyer has not returned requests for comment on the case.
